For Solar Powered People

We had the closest lightning strike I have ever experienced over the weekend and apart from nearly jumping out of my skin a whole bunch of our appliances were blown. One of which was the 220V transformer located in my gates control unit.

Yesterday I retrofitted the gates standby battery system with a 25W solar panel and
solar charge controller and it’s working like a bomb. My FIRST ever major appliance to be completely disconnected from the grid.
I'm sure this this will be the first of many! For more check out www.mypoweronline.tv

Thanks for posting your pictures and videos! Nice application for small scale PV! Did you remember to set the charge controller for a sealed battery? Those Phocos controllers have a jumper inside that I'm pretty sure needs to be moved from the default setting to be used with sealed batteries.

Hi Eric, thanks for that, was reading about the jumpers in the manual but did not think it was relevant, will check it out and change if necessary, been very cloudy for the past 4 days and still working, have also replace the intekom with a purely 12v unit, was concerned about the +150meters up to our house but all works perfectly!
