What type of renewable energy system(s) do you use?: photovoltaics (PV), microhydro, solar hot water (SHW), wood/biomass heating

Describe your system(s): I have a 300Watts and 3kW Induction motor working as Induction Generator and a 1500watts inverter and PV array
We use Solar water heating for all our hot water needs and biogas plant for cooking gas

Why do you use renewable energy systems?: remote location - no grid power available, secure energy supply (backup power), to reduce my carbon footprint, financial benefits

In your own words, what else motivates you to use RE systems?: I am a farmer form the south Indian State of Kerala, In most of India the power supply is erratic and of poor quality. Even though the intial investment for RE systems are quite they are rewarding in the long run. I have never experience a power cut for the last 10years. During the monsoons I have the micro hydro and in summer the Solar. I also have a few cows on the farm whose dung I use to power a biogas plant which supplies me all the gas I need for cooking. In monsoon I can use the extra power prodced to add value to the farm poduce which normally would have to sold unprocessed due to high fuel cost and lack of dry fire wood.
