Why do you use renewable energy systems?: secure energy supply (backup power), to reduce my carbon footprint, to teach others, to be eco-groovy

In your own words, what else motivates you to use RE systems?: Engineering challenge plus carry on a tradition. (My father spent his entire career making power on the Columbia River.)
